The end result of the ego inflated until it’s maximum point of gluttony- which can only be done in the mind anyway, as the mind has no obstacles- always leads to the divine. It eventually merges with what we think of as the opposite of the ego: the highest self.
Just try it. Take your most egotistical desire and feed it in your mind like a diabolical dictator would. Eventually it gets so inflated it pops and you find yourself arriving at a very average, non-egotistical moment. Every Nobel Prize recipient still goes to the dentist, gets cut off in traffic, catches a cold, etc. just like you do.
This exercise is the point of meditation. But meditation can occur at any time; on the couch during a TV commercial, in an elevator, driving to work. There are hundreds of moments a day that are available for meditation. There is no need to create extra time, or find the right class, or guru. Just do it in line at the donut shop. Divinity has no rules. It’s when you believe there are that Divinity denies access.
