Physics is always peering deeper into particles, space, and with recent discoveries in quantum physics, into the nature of consciousness. Science is starting to discover the ‘oneness‘ that sages have accessed for thousands of years. The nature of our minds and our knowledge of the nature of our minds is beginning to merge.
Art also used to keep up with each scientific movement or shift in humanity’s understanding of itself. Art used to be on the cutting edge of thought, culture, consciousness. But art hasn’t contributed a new way of looking at reality for decades. There’s nothing new to be painted or sculpted. It’s just more things out in the world to be bought and sold. Even installation art, video, and performance art are stuck in the same basic conversation they started over 30 years ago. (See “concerns” here.)
Spiritual practice and findings in physics deepen understanding and increase consciousness, which benefits humanity. But where is this expanding consciousness from new art?
Art has neither enhanced (let alone embraced) higher consciousness through spirit nor through the application of technological development as physics uses. I left art behind because of this stagnancy but I look back and wonder where art will be as physics takes everyone into new realms of consciousness. Is it not time to shed the stagnant status quo that is “contemporary” art. Doesn’t humanity need art and creativity to be expressing itself where we stand in our present knowledge of the universe, of our minds?
Museums, galleries, dealers, and artists have a lot of momentum so the art will keep being churned out. People will see it, most of them scratching their heads, and the paths of physics and spirituality will soar on- moving, evolving, changing, like a clear river- staying true to nature.
